Well Ive done something to the timing gear. Not sure if its the crank key or the gear itself. It will spin about half way around then stop (thats without the crank turning...). I havent taken the pulley off yet to deteremine the extent, Im hoping that the crank isnt hurt. I really think the gear is broken, does anyone have one laying around? or can I still get them from Toyota?
Anyone else have this happen? I replaced a tensioner a month ago, I might have put too much tension on the belt.

too much tension on the belt will not cause this. Occasionally the key in the lower gear will fail, not usually on a 62 hp engine, or possible the gear got split. Could be the front pulley bolt was not tight enough and allowed small amount of play, eventually failed key.
You should be able to replace the key without too much trouble or cost. IF the key way in either the gear or the crank are banged up, you need to clean it up with a file, and than fine sand paper. Replace the key and install saturated with loc-tite. this will prevent any movement. Make sure you get the front bolt on tight.

Re: Lower Timing Gear Toast?
I posted this earlier in another post, but I wanted to try and bookend this post since it was the one I orginially intended to post in.

Ever seen this before? The key was fine on the balancer side,, but was tore up on the gear side. It did a number on the gear too. The balancer bolt was on tight enough I had to use a breaker to get it loose.
Guess I'll be hitting up Toyota in the morning....If they even carry these anymore?
