weber 32/36 carb on an '85
Are these carbs any good? Im having trouble with my stock carb (check other post) and Ive seen a few posts about people running these webers. Do they run an automatic choke, do they hook up to the stock wiring, do you get the same gas mileage as your stock carb ...I know they dont use all the vaccum hoses

They work amazingly well. They use the OE choke wire. If you are in an emissions-required-for-old-crocks state, there may be issues. There are a number of threads here concerning what needs to be hooked up. Basically, no vac stuff save for the dist needs be retained.

Re: weber 32/36 carb on an '85
is the gas mileage decent with these?
what does this mean Basically, no vac stuff save for the dist needs be retained....i need to keep a vac line for the distributor?
im planning on taking it to get it worked on tomorrow, would you recommend this or will i jusst see problems again in the near future and i should get a weber ASAP
Also Ive been seeing people saying to get a fuel pressure reg if running a weber because their designed for 3.5 lbs of fuel but the fuel pump on tercels is 7 lbs and it will cause a leak in the carb eventually

My mpg is about the same - 30 +/-. Others report improvements.
Yes on the vac for dist - two schools of thought on connections.
Regulator advised.
Go for work on the Aisan OE - still prob cheaper than a Weber.
Weber brings smoother response and less hassle - again - does your state require emissions testing?

Re: weber 32/36 carb on an '85
Before you blame the stock carb check all those hoses for vacuum leaks and proper routing, it is easy to do yourself. I bought a Tercel4wd that ran very badly, it was undrivable. If found it had 9 vac leaks in the hoses from disconnected hoses and cracked lines. Easy fix, and it ran fine once corrected.
After you check and correct the vac lines, and it is the carb that is the problem, the stock carb is easy to rebuild, kits are about $30. Re manufactured stock carb is about $200 and a weber kit is about $400, so take your pick and spend your money. If you live in an area that gets very cold I suspect the stock carb with all the altitude compensation of vacuum equipment (once you get it all working properly) will give you the best starting and cold weather performance. the weber is a good alternative and improves performance, but it is costly and you may have other issues to spend money on beside the carb kit, like the fuel pressure regulator, the air cleaner, etc. And in many states, like California, you will not be able to registure the car with either a badly running stock carb or a weber.
It is illegal to disable the federally required emissions equipment, so there are not many repair shops that will install a weber unless it is for "off road" use only. You have to do it yourself or you need to find a "backyard" mechanic that knows how to install and fine tune the weber to work best on the TErcel (it will get the best fuel economy if the jets and other adjustments are optimized for the Tercel engine).
I have owned 5 TErcel4wd, all I bought cheap as fixers, every one of them had drivablity issues related to the carb or the vacuum lines and equipment. All I fixed without replacing the carb, but several took rebuilding the carb. Chances are it is the vacuum lines, go print out the vacuum line diagram from the repair guides section and follow each one on your car (remove the air filter assembly) and check for cracks or leaks. Than see if you improved the way it drives, before you spend a lot of money in a shop with mechanics that may have never even seen a carburetor before.
Good luck.

david - I put one on mine, with a gauge, following splatterdog's advice (about the setup
...). Mine is mounted as per his info.

Re: weber 32/36 carb on an '85
The regulator was $40 and the gauge was $17, back in '08 - both from Advance. Gauge was in stock (!) at a local store, but the regulator had to be ordered. Fittings were from Home Depot - stock items anywhere.
Note that the gauge had to be installed per the diagram (pix was befoe actual installation), but twisted somewhat to avoid leakage - the brass fittings had to be surprisingly tight to avoid leakage (as I discovered...). I used a Permatex thread sealer - forget which one now.

Well - I dunno. I clicked on the link in my original post and it worked and also in the quote you posted - and it worked. There are four photos there.

EDIT - Ahh, I see now - alehander's original pix are missing - but mine are still there.
