Does anyone know how to remove the black door trim/gutter from the side of the back door on the outside? I believe there may be tons of crap underneath mine.
Oh by the way I'm new here. My name's Jeremy. Tercel has over 400,000 miles.
I have removed this part once a long time ago on one I was scarping out. But I do not recall exactly, I think it just pops out (use a putty knife). But before you do that, remove the inner linger panel (this does pop out with metal clips, do it carefully the little plastic knobs tend to break off) and get a good look at the back side of where this strip mounts inside the 3rd column. There might be some clips or 10mm screws that have to come out that I am not remebering.
How ever you do it, these plastic parts tend to get brittle with age and are easily damaged when trying to remove them.

How long have you had the T4WD? 400K makes it one of the mileage leaders.
It's called a "quarter panel ornament" and is peculiar to the Wagon. See page BO-27 in the FSM (available for download at top of page). See page B0-51 first, as Petros mentions - and do let us know your findings.

Thanks so much for all replies. I live in Seymour, TN right outside of Knoxville, TN. The Tercel has always just been in the family...I learned to drive on it. I'm 30 now. I decided to take it for this winter because I didn't have anything 4wd (I sold my Tundra last April and bought a Mazdaspeed3, the wife drives a Matrix). The engine has been upgraded to a 4a but as far as I know everything else is original except for an sr5 guage cluster. We have backups for all the 4wd specific parts since they're hard to come by (transmissions, rear axles, etc). The picture in the first post is kind of old...all the rust is gone and the car has been repainted.
*EDIT: I am on staycation until the 22 so I will let everyone know (with pictures) how to get that off. I just don't want any rust to set up in there.
