Stock bellcrank on a weber the easy way(welder required)

First, shake all the gas out of the old carb and let it air out while the conversion proceeds.

When it's time to hook up the throttle cable- Remove the crank and the piece right behind it on the throttle shaft. A hairpin clip and linkage rod are the only thing in your way. Note their position while removing. Here's what you should have.

On the inner piece everything behind the main plate gets cut off.

Cleaned up and ready for assembly.

Bolt it back up tight and weld it up. Hopefully I shouldn't have to remind you that all the gas should have been thoroughly shaken out of the old carb and aired out by now.

Then remove and install to weber. The very end of the throttle cable support where the cable goes thru just need a little bend towards the carb for good alignment.

Almost forgot about the whole reason for welding the two pieces together in the first place. The weber throttle shaft nut can only be tightened finger tight. That's nowhere near as tight as the stock carb and certainly not enough to keep the bump and hole engaged between the two pieces. The crank must stay aligned to the inner plate as it has the flats or as I like to say "back to back double D". Sounds more fun to me!

Is there any reason you could simply first weld these two parts together (before you take them off the throttle shaft), and than remove the two parts and cut off the inner piece? That is presuming you get all the fuel out of the carb.

That way you do not risk welding them together the wrong way.

Another Q - wouldn't JB Weld due the trick? It doesn't seem like the joined parts would be under much stress.

No on the JB weld. A rivet or small nut/bolt could work.

Welding could be done before taking it apart. However, 25 years of gunk buildup gets in the way of good welds. Burning off impurities as you are welding doesn't really work on a couple quick tacks.

looking at helping another member with this conversion soon but i don't have a welder. it looks to me like drilling out the bump on the bellcrank and inserting a small nut and bolt (like SD mentioned) through it and the hole of the cut part would work just as well as welding. can anyone else who has done this verify for me though? i don't want to leave another member stranded at my place after i've hacked up his carb.

you might also try a pop rivit. either should work, if you use a screw and nut I would put lock-tight on the threads.
