Start with the 4 screws that hold the radio bezel (two on each side, they hold the whole of the center dropped part of the console on) and pull the bezel (console, whatever) out towards the shift lever and pivot upwards. You now have access to the front mounting screws for the stereo, be aware that there should be a rear support strap as well that is a bear to get to, at least its a nut and not a screw. Once you have the front screws out, you can tell if the rear support is there or not. Its all pretty easy, the hard part is fitting a newer stereo in.
Welcome, and above all, Have fun!!! :D

two of the screws are under the upper rim or lip of the panel, the other two are inside the ash tray mount (remove the ash tray and you will see them), and there are also one on each side. When the center panel is off you will see the bracket that holds the radio and the little cubby shelf under it.

I suggest you keep the factory radio and all the mounting hardware so you can replace it later just in case you ever want to put it back. If this car ever becomes a collector car (hah!) the factory radio would make it more valuble. Please do not cut up the panel to make the new radio fit, there are becoming had to find in good condition. Actually the factory radio has pretty good AM reception compared to even high priced aftermarket radios. I am sure the FM could be improved, but better speakers would also be a big help.

Welcome to the list BTW
