I went to the local salvage yard yesterday and to my surprise, there were 6 80's Tercels! All were hatches oddly enough. One has some rims I want to steal, but don't have the 60 for all 4. Theres some other stuff, like windows I want to examine. There were also 4 Tercels with the 3E generation engines, one being a 3E-E. 12 valves. Might look into stealing those.
I'll let you know if I find out more, as I'm going again today to look for airbag systems (none were dead of front impacts, all rear ended or just dead engines <most had rolled over 300k miles!>)

The 3E is not a good engine. Even though it's a Toyota. It's known for not being durable. I have one and burns oil a lot...
I don't think the head from the 3E-E head would work. It's a 12 valve. And I think, from what I read here the pistons have cutouts on top for valve clearance.
One thing that interests me a lot is the EFI system from the 3E-E. I have this osession to convert the 3A to EFI...
Typrus, if you do end up fiddling with that 3E-E would you be able to line up the 3E-E intake manifold to a 3A head? Take pics of it if you can. PLay LEGO with them, see what fits with that exhaust on that side too...
Thanx, Guy

My dad used to have an 89 Tercel, just front wheel drive, two door sedan, a real clown car it was! it was probably the cheapest car toyota could get away with selling in the US or something heh....I don't know what kind of engine it had in it, but I do remember it was 12 valve...it ran quite well as I recall...except the carb on it bucked really bad and it drove me crazy.
Then he got rear ended by a F150 (lady stepped on the wrong pedal, how about that. That's what she said.) then the insurance totalled it, and bought it from him....a couple years later, I see it on the road...I know it was the same one cuz it had a wrong colour trunk lid held down with bungee cords, so I look closely in the taco bell parking lot and recognize the 6x9s i custom fitted in the rear dash heh....
Then even more amusingly, a few years after that, this new guy started where I worked...which was not even in the same town, but rather 30 miles away...then I notice the car sitting in the lot, the same one....hehehe so I talked to him about it, he said it was still ticking along perfectly...
The moral of this long story is that thing will probably be the engine you WISH would die

Yeah, that's definitely a 3E! My friend had an '87 Tercel just like that. It wanted to die, but being a Toyota, it couldn't.Adelard of Bath wrote: My dad used to have an 89 Tercel, just front wheel drive, two door sedan, a real clown car it was! it was probably the cheapest car toyota could get away with selling in the US or something heh....I don't know what kind of engine it had in it, but I do remember it was 12 valve...it ran quite well as I recall...except the carb on it bucked really bad and it drove me crazy.
