Parting out a 1984 Toyota Tercel Station Wagon SR5 4x4.
It ran great until yesterday when the timing belt broke and took out the idler pulley. Engine has approximately 100K on it. New clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing. new front brakes ( rotors, calipers, bearings, hoses and pads), rear brakes (drums, shoes, wheel cylinders) new rear axle bearings and seals on both sides. new radiator, new alternator. interior decent all glass good. A/C that blows cold, Rear hatch with working wiper assembly, all body panels in decent condition except drivers rear quarter panel. It has been a good little car and has been driven for 342K miles and always got great mileage (28 to 30 mpg). Have a spare set of rims with snow tires also.

Re: 1984 Tercel SR5 Station Wagon
Nathan,
I am also in Arlington, but right now I am in CA until tomorrow. when I get back I will call you. The broken timing belt is an easy fix, I just did one last week (do not let anyone tell you the engine needs to be replaced-only about $20 in parts and about 2 hours). I would be a shame to part out a good car because of a timing belt. I will help you get it running if you want.
How much do you want for it?

It also broke the section that holds the idler pulley, the belt was only $13 and did buy it but once I got the cover off I saw the Idler attachment (pot metal/aluminum part that attaches it) broken. If I had another piece I would put it back together but I don't have one. if you have a dead motor that has the part I'll buy it and repair the car, it's been my daily driver to South Seattle for awhile and I really like the car.
Let me know if you have the part or know someone that does.
Thanks,
Nathan

i'm trying to figure out what you mean by pot metal/alum?
the idler bearing is all steel
i cant imagine it breaking
is something on the block broken
the idler bearing is attached with a bolt and fits over a steel pin sticking out of the block
its spring also attaches to a steel pin sticking out of the block
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
Re: 1984 Tercel SR5 Station Wagon
The part that ended up broken is the oil pump housing, the idler is attached to it. I just purchased a new oil pump so I'll repair the car and keep her on the road.
Thanks,
Nathan

good for you. I have a used oil pump that might have worked, but I do not know what kind of shape the pump itself is in. where did you find the oil pump?
When you remove it, try to cut the pan gasket free without damaging the gasket (the lower edge of the oil pump housing seals against the oil pan gasket). If you can get it out with out damaging the gasket it will not likely leak when you get the new one in. Use a lot of sealant too.
Good luck.

Re: 1984 Tercel SR5 Station Wagon
I bought a new pump at O'reily (Shucks).
I'm glad I went on here and am really glad you talked some sense into me.
