ok everyone i have made it home but the tercel did have some problems, i dont know what is wrong but as i was driving threw the sunday sumit i saw some smoke coming from the engine and this bad smell of melting ruber. so i pulled over and turned off the car and poped the hood and looked for the problem but i did not find it so i let the car rest while i took a 1.5Hr nap. i then thought all was good and hit the road again and by the time i hit olla the car started to smoke again so i pulled over and poped the hood and i could smell the melting ruber but could not find it. so i let it sit and then drove it home i dont know what is wrong but the smoke is coming from behind the carb can any one help me i am in need of this car very badly all help is much appresheated.

I presume you've checked all of the hoses and vac tubing? One of them laying on or near the exhaust pipe?
I wouldn't drive it again until you have a fire extinguisher in the car...you never know.

Could be coming from the exhaust underneath and rising up from behind the engine?

could the electric car heat element over heat? There is a heating element in the choke and under the carb, if something is shorted in either these could get too hot. easy test would be to up plug it and run it, see if the smell goes away.

I recall that takza once mentioned that (at least) one of the hoses from the charcoal canister appeared melted. But you already checked this, right?

I THINK that hose melted due to gasoline collected in it....not heat. More like it rotted.
