Blower Motor Tube Trivia

Post by ARCHINSTL »

Does anyone know the purpose of the corrugated rubber tube connecting the blower motor case with the duct to the heater box or the AC cooling unit?
I thought at first it was some kind of drain in the event water got into the blower motor - but since the tube leads up into the case of the two connecting pieces, that would not seem correct. Then I thought (scientist that I am) that maybe the air blowing through the other two units has some kind of Bernoulli effect via the tube and sucks dirt and/or water out of the blower and deposits it in the other two pieces.
If it is supposed to suck water, it ain't working too well, as I found some drips* at the case/blower motor juncture - and the tube is clear and uncluttered.

That would be to ventilate and cool the motor itself.

Ahhh - so the Bernoulli effect draws air over/through the motor! Thanks!
Yet another moment that causes my forehead to become a bit flatter from the heel of my palm hitting it...
