Whaddup ya'll. So I don't post on here too often but wanted to let it be known that I do appreciate this forum. I finally got around to putting my engine back in the Tercel. I took it out in 2007, rebuilt it in the first half of 2008 and then got the hairbrained idea to see how long I could stand not having a car that ran. It was fun (sorta). The FSM here helped me to no end and so did the pics of the vacuum diagrams. I have to take some pics of the vacuum tube that I can't remember where it belongs, that will probably happen at some point this weekend. Along the way I also decided to swap out the power steering for manual steering. I thought this might have been the cheaper route but alas... not so. The steering shaft on the manuals is about 3" longer as there is no spool valve. D'oh. If I can find the receipts I'll try to come up with a dollar amount of all the stuff I did but I am pretty certain that some got lost. Basically this is what got replaced:
Everything except the crank, cam, block, head and valve seats were replaced on the engine itself
The block was bored over .020"
The block was also decked, including the oil pan rail. (ironically the finish on the bottom was smoother when we measured it with the profilometer)
New vacuum lines for under the air cleaner
New radiator and hoses
New manual rack, steering shaft and outer tie rods
Custom bushing to mount new rack (LH side of manual rack is a smaller dia.)
New shift knobs. Trans got a real 8-ball, 4WD got a real cue ball. Werd.
Found the idiot buzzed. Removed with extreme prejudice
New muffler
I pretty sure thats it. I did all the machining myself in class except for the final hone, for that I took it to a engine shop owned by one of my past instructors. For those of you near southern Wisconsin, JRC Enterprises just south of Columbus does awesome work. You will not be dissatisfied. And they sell fresh eggs too. So yeah, I'll post up some pics by sunday, until then I'm going to be working, driving around, and silently thanking the interwebs for making this sharing of useful knowledge possible.
All in all the car is working pretty good. I'm not sure about the health of the carb, I did no work on it at all save the vacuum lines. I have only put about 60 miles on it so far but it is super quiet and runs well. Later ya'll and thanks again.

Good job. You might consider putting a reground cam shaft in it (they tend to wear with age). Delta Cams of Tacoma WA make a street performance cam regrind for only about $60 (exchange with your old cam). It is worth it to get a bit more power out of these little engines, and it is easy to swap out the cam even after the engine is all back together.
