Robert Moogs's Wagon !

Post by ARCHINSTL »

Sorry about the bit of a teaser - I just discovered (from the Miata site) that the famous, late, Robert Moog, inventor of the synthesizer and other electronic whatzits drove a wagon! Dunno if 2WD or 4WD, though. Turns out it was painted with butterflies and other '70s stuff. Apparently there was a Showtime movie about him a few years ago and the wagon was in it - anyone ever see it?

Matt -
Thanks for the link - I'd forgotten about it...
And thanks for the photo; I'd done a Google search for the his Wagon, trying various combinations (even his personal page, which was quite interesting, even to a tin-ear like me) to no avail...where did you get it?

I did like the last line in the quoted statement: "In amazement we just sat not knowing what to do."
Now, I'm certain that they were talking about the T4WD - right?
The correct reaction would have been to burn some - uhh, incense - in homage to the Mighty Turtle!

Off topic, dont burn incense in a car...just dont. I did it..the smell was there for so long, but it faded slowly and faded incense smells terrible.

My herbal remark was tongue-in-cheek and euphemistic, you know...

Might it be possible to avoid tongue-in-cheek remarks/comments for now, lol as they are either weird or the name of the kind of comment: "tongue-in-cheek" sounds too geeky and dumb for my tastes, lol! So try to lay off them when talking to either me or Mattel, lol? :D Mmm K? lol Also, this Tercel seems to have gotten the works in spray paint, hahaha! ;) Some dude must have not had anything better to do and just thought he'd think it was cooler to dress it up in multiple coats of graffiti, lol! ;)

Mea culpa! I will consider the comprehension level of all readers from now on.*

Well, maybe if Mattel pleads, I might....*

Some dude? Some dude?
As a nascent Paul Wall, I'd have thought that you'd have studied Robert Moog in yo' rappin' classes!

* On reconsideration - I will continue to write in a "geeky" manner with "dumb" syntax, all of which might not reach those who are absent from the office for an noontime repast (that last verb phrase was one of them thar euphemism thangs).

Reading this thread brought back a lost memory. Just before I left North Carolina in the early 90s, I lived with an aunt who worked with Bob Moog's daughter Michelle Moog-Koussa, now the director of the Bob Moog foundation. My aunt bought a 1981 Tercel base sedan from Michelle's husband when they moved abroad, and I received that Tercel a few years later in a trade. My wife drove it for a few years until we sold it to a Honduran family.

Anyway, I thought about Michelle, and emailed her yesterday. She told me a bit of the story of Bob's wagon. He loved Toyotas, and drove that wagon about 200k miles. About 15 years ago his stepdaughter asked if she could paint it, and he told her to go for it. The family still has the Tercel, and it's going to be a centerpiece in the "Moogseum". I'm going to see if I can photograph it in depth, and do a writeup on it. Here's the picture Michelle sent me today:

Wow!
Ordinarily I'd write that you have opened a benevolent and exciting antithetic Pandora's Box - but the mention of that lady's coffer might be nebulous or it might even be a euphemism thang or (horrors!) a geeky reference...so I will just state: "Right on!"
This is tres cool !
Thanks!
Tom M.

P.S. You might have to translate this comment for a certain MA lad...

I learnt about Bob Moog from the Beastie Boys short run magazine "Grand Royal" they had a 8 page feature on him. What an amazing inventor and musician.
