Hey guys, I am now a proud owner of a 1985 Toyota Tercel 4WD Wagon. I bought the car from a dealership in Alabama for 750 dollars, and was very excited to drive away. We had a short test drive and the car seemed like it needed a bit of work, but I was just so happy to finally find one that I wanted to jump on it anyway. Especially at such a reasonable price. Well, anyway, what the dealership failed to tell me was that the left rear wheel bearing was completely failed.. we ended up having to pull over and get a trailer and tow it back to my place. Pretty sorry of the dealership if you ask me. I went to take the wheel off this morning and pulled the entire left rear axle half out with it . So yeah, obviously needs a bit of work. Hopefully thats all thats wrong with it. I'm hoping that theres no damage to the rear-end. But anyways... I'm just proud to be part of the terc4wd community!! Seems like alot of great people around here... I pretty much bought the car to fix up for a road trip with three of my buddies up to Lake Erie in Ohio. We live in Georgia so I'm hoping to get the car in pristine shape before July 17th.
Welcome to the Club!
You are right - there are a lot of helpful folks here!

I did both of my wheel bearings last year on my first tercel.
It isn't that bad of a job, just once you get it out, go take it to another shop to have the old bearings taken off and the new ones put on. You DONT want to know how hard it is to do that by hand..gah..

That's what I was planning on doing. Can't wait to get the terc running down the road!!
You might also consider changing the diff oil while you are at it, and replace the rear axle seals too.
I hope you go through the rest of the car real good before you take it on any long trips. These cars are reliable, but when it has a lot of miles on it, almost anything can go on it that can leave you stuck somewhere.
