Oil Recommendations

Post by rhino »

I just bought a 1986 Toyota Tercel 4x4 Wagon SR5. Any recommendations on the best oil to use? Do you have any positive or negative experiences with using Mobil 1 synthetic oil?

I always used Castrol 5w30 in winter and 10w30 summer in every Tercel I've owned. After switching out the tired 3AC with a 4AC I had a persistent noise somewhere between a click and a knock. I tried different weights and brands even 15w40 shell diesel engine oil. The last switch I made was to Mobile 1 synthetic. Problem solved. I'm on my third oil change with it and I like it the best.

Mobil 1 synth tests out to be one of the better synth oils on bobistheoilguy. I've used it...but would probably go with 1 or 2 quarts along with some regular oil.
