Post by CathodeRayTube »

how practical would it be to install an after market sunroof...are such things even available? or to install one from a junkyard into a tercel that came with no sunroof...?

Check out the posts of the Sunroof King, MootsMan - he has three in one of his Tercs!
They are all popups from various cars - he also has a thread with pix of the process.

There are also aftermarket sun roof kits, I do not know where to buy them but they are commonly installed in custom van conversions. Perhaps a camper and RV parts suppliers.

Of course I seen several people just cut them out (roof and all) from wrecking yard cars and than installing them on their cars, this is even cheaper than a kit. You leave about 5/8" lip of the old roof around the edges and just use it like a flange. You can weld or even rivet this flange around the hole you cut in your roof. If you rivet it in you have to put a lot of sealant around the edges to make sure it does not leak.

Either way I would be careful not to cut through any frame members, you place it so you are only cutting the roof skin and not the roll over structure.

Good luck.
