Belated intro

Post by KB3 »

I realized last night that I never posted up any pics of my '86 that I bought it in August of '07. My brother's best friend in high school had one that he absolutely loved. I became (and still am) obsessed with Land Cruisers, but always had a fondness for the Tercel 4WD. I found this on Craigslist here in Phoenix. I paid $1200 for it and the AC works great. It is my DD. My other vehicles are all Land Cruisers and the wife has a Tacoma.

What kind of mpg do you see with the LCs? I was steered away from them due to the poor mpg from the Chevy 6 in them. EPA lists the '86 at 10/12 mpg. That is 1/3 what I get with my wagon.

13 seems to be an average number around the LC community. An '86 is a great year. It's the second to last year of the standard transmission in Land Cruisers. No EFI though, that came along with the AT in '88 with the FJ62 model. I have an '83 that I'm "Learning" about the 60 series on. It's a beast and the 4 speed and 2F are very attractive. I may save the drive train to put in a pre '66 Cruiser for the emissions aspect here in Phx.

there are so many landcruisers in Aus, I can't get to grips with the look of the 200series though, I like the idea of the automatically disconecting roll bars for greater wheel travel.

Have done thousands of kms in the old troopys though, they are still very popular in the bush.

Love those Troopies. People keep bringing the 45's over. I somehow need to convince the wife that it is a necessity and worth spending upwards of 20K on one. I don't think I'll even begin to make any headway in that argument until her Tacoma is paid off and I hold off on any other vehicle purchases for a while.

I've sat in the 200 series at the dealership and at a car show. I think if I had the money, I'd just buy a Sequoia and an xB instead....

yeah, the FJ60's are cool to an extent as well as the more Jeep-like LC's, but the Terc should be nominated "Best Car of the 1980s!!!!"
