1985 4WD Tercel SR5 For Sale

Post by noface »

Located just south of Nashville, TN.

Runs, but needs carb rebuilt as it's been sitting a couple years.

Will also need a battery and probably tires too, though they do hold air. Tread looks ok, maybe 50%, but I don't know that I'd trust them after being parked for so long.

Brand new clutch assembly before it was parked.

All stock w/factory a/c, am/fm cassette, and all the SR5 goodies.

175,000 miles.

Some rust bubbles, but no rust-through...

Glass and interior is in good shape. Have brand new muffler that needs to be installed.

$1200

will have digital pics tomorrow.

Put a weber carb, new battery and tires and away you go down the road...

I should note as well the car is a manual 5 speed, and has spent it's whole life in TN.

My father in law drove this daily up until he replaced the clutch. Just after he finished the clutch install, he fell ill and passed on. Great daily driver. It's only got about 50 miles on the new clutch.

175K, rust, carb work, tires, battery, has been sitting several years, yeah I'd say $1200 is quite steep (no offence to noface)

...no offense taken. I really hadn't done the homework to really know the value. I asked around in this forum a couple months back and 1k was what was suggested.

I think I could get more than that parting it out maybe, I just don't really have the time to do it. And I don't have $500 to put into it to make it worth $1500, so I thought I'd make someone that's looking for a solid 4wd Tercel a pretty good buy. And 98% of the '85 Tercels out there have rust, most worse than this one.

So... make me an offer. You never know. Just don't embarrass yourself.

Here's some pics. And as a correction, it's got 153k on the odometer (the other Toyota sitting in the back yard's got 170K, I got them mixed up).

If you'd like to see more pictures, drop me a note, and I'll take more.

well...im not afrade to embarrass myself, as it has been done many times before... im going to say $200 in its current state? or 200+whatever the new clutch had cost..

is the rear window all the rust on it or is there more elsewhere...is this somthing that could easily be sanded and painted over...or would it involve grinding/welding/bondoing... and will it start run and drive at all?

how would we get this to Gettysburg PA if i were to buy it...

I'm selling an '84 SR5 for $250 that runs great & only has a small amount of surface rust on the tailgate & none on the body. So $200 for it as it is is a good price. You might get a bunch more money for the car if you were will to part it out. Be a bunch more work. I'd be interested in the trans assembly even with the cost of shipping it out to CA.

Ok im thinking harder now... what all would have to be done to it to make it drivable to gettysburg? and what state are the undercarrage and transmission in. is there any rust underneeth? does the trans work flawlessly? does the sunroof work and does it leak? wheres the tilt meter thing at? can i get photos of the undersides, a close up of the rust by the rear window, and a wide shot of the gauge cluster that includes the fuel gauge...?

Got this little dude running good today... a 34$ fuel pump and 15$ of vacuum line and it's good to go.

Fawkin aye Batman! There's more than 12ft of vacuum hose on these little buggers!. I bought 12ft, and need about 6 more! I replaced all hoses since it wouldn't idle well below 1200rpm.

After replacing MOST of the lines, I've got the idle set at 850.

I did drain the fuel tank, was in process of removing it when I spotted the drain plug duh! made that job a whole lot easier.

Run her up and down the highway and around the neighborhood and all's well. Cleaned up the inside, looks a lot nicer than I thought. Clean up the outside tomorrow.

All gauges and light work fine.

Gonna purge the brake lines too, as they feel a little mushy from sitting inop so long.

Gonna make a nice car I believe.

Get more if parted out. To get you started, I'll go $50 plus postage for the piece of exterior plastic trim behind the driver's side rear wheel and the four metal exterior window visors.

I think the $1000 plus for this Tercel is justified since it is running and the rust isn't really too bad.
They are becoming harder to find and in my view $1000 for a running vintage Toyota with no major rust issues is worth it.
I know in Canada, especially Ontario, you would have no problem finding a buyer. my .2 cents
