Egr valve

Post by steve071370 »

Hey all, was wondering if anyone has an inside line on an egr valve. I've got an 85 tercel 4x4 automatic and every time I plug the small vacuum hose onto the top of the valve, the car runs rough once warmed up. At a stop light, after almost a minute, it seems to smooth out. I've tried to clean it out but to no avail. It had a bunch of carbon buildup and I got it all out, I just think it's had it. I've searched for one all over the internet and have seen them for $140-$170. Kind of steep for a 23 year old car, so if anyone knows of a website that has them cheap, or if there's any place that may remanufacture them, if possible, I sure would appreciate the help.

There's a writeup in the Repair section. Problem sounds like it's the vac modulator that controls the EGR valve. Might fix it by spraying a bit of WD40 into the ports and checking the vac lines to it and the EGR. A temp fix is to undo the vac line to the EGR and plug it till you get it figured out.
