Water under the carpet...

Post by gerviswaddell »

hey there,

Ive got water coming in from somewhere, and it is ending up under my floor mat. Today I removed the carpet (wet wet wet) and threw a bunch of used motor oil in there, to try and displace the water and perhaps stop the rusting which is happening around the plugs down there. Anyone have any idea of how to stop it from getting in there in the first place? the car has been sitting and the water is coming in from rain / snow melt etc...

thanks,

Dave.

It either gets in thru the heater/air vents behind the hood or the windshield? I've never been able to totally stop the water...but I have put gear and motor oil under the carpet...but you need to do this in the fall when its dry under there. I also use lithium spray grease from under the car where I see rust.

I have a (possible) solution to your problem; I had something similar. Look at my lengthy post about halfway through. This procedure solved the problem.

Will post a pix or two when I get home Tuesday (animal/housesitting for a dotter).
Note that I won't be removing the cowl piece for the photos, though, but will 'splain it again.
