what're the benefits of a PCV jar

So yeh, just wondering about the hole pcv jar thing.

What exactly does it do?

Does it just collect some things from doing into the engine? I know the PCV valve is pretty important.

Also, what about water injection for these engines?

A pcv jar, in the short term, will pull out oil vapors from the pcv gases and help prevent ping/spark knock as oil vapors in the air /fuel mix can contribute to premature combustion. It will enhance efficiency also by prevention of contamination of the air/fuel mix. In the long term it will contribute to the longevity of an engine by reducing the build up of combustion chamber/intake valve deposits and also the oil bathed areas will stay much cleaner. The oil will stay cleaner way longer.

But, by going an extra step, and installing a condenser style pcv trap system, you can pull out a bunch more harmful stuff. There is an expensive "Condensator" system on the market that can be bought, but one can be built fairly simply. These condensing systems will also pull out acidic water vapor and a bunch of other nasty stuff that a simple pcv jar can not. I'm designing a condensing pcv trap system currently for my own use.

IMNSHO a water injection system, if used on an engine w/o forced induction, is, in most cases, just a band aid for poor tuning.

I test straight water injection on my Terc and saw no mpg gain and a loss of power. I gave a link in another post where a guy claims a 30% gain from injecting washer fluid...but he leaned out the carb (another engine).
