its not totaled, its a classic

Post by jed »

on sunday night a pack of wild big sedans decided to pick on my tercel. needless to say the olds 88 going 40 curled its hood under its tail; the chevy (late 80's vintage) going about 40 fought hard before the turtle ripped out, split open and then enjoyed the marrow of its rear axle. to the amazement of all (except me) it runs, we've seen worse together and have always made it back. i am proud that all the lights still work.
so, i need a hood, fender, bumper, headlight assembly, steering linkage straightened, and a new strut, but i still have a half a tank of gas and the car drives so it can not be totaled. i mean totaled is when a car can not be repaired. finally after taking the adjuster for a short spin through a construction zone of mud he decided to tell me that i have a classic....i get no money to do the work myself, and pocket the rest. a specialty shop will do all the work...you know the body shop that has a front door and an office with a ducks unlimited calendar instead of girly calendar. the workers are still just as high on paint and bondo as any other shop, but they are footing the bill this round, so what can i say. they still won't paint my car on the insurance dime, but apparently they can match the dirty faded paint finish i am going for... think antiques roadshow.
i think i will leave the cracked grill for a while to warn others of the turks hunger. this time i will admit the turtle took the brunt of the blow, but i look forward to many more years of each of use abusing each other fishing the fish of the delta.

Welcome!
You have an understanding - and I think rare - adjuster; stick with that company!

Jed,I like your style. On account of you have mentioned Ducks Unlimited and fishing,I will respectfully suggest you go to the gallery and take a look at Sandhills, rainbow, and Kelty Noahs Tarp, for some ideas.
I had a pretty.red Terc.Till an unknown person slammed it about at the gas filler neckand smeared the corner in,caving the fender and rearr deck. The impact spun my car to slam into my pickup, caving in the left passenger door. So,multicolored body panels and a beat up car, with a fresh 4AC and 4.1 gears.I was bummed, but I made lemonade.
Every delta I know of is far from Colo.Maybe if you get in a real bind I have some parts, try local first. It has to be expensive to send a hood!! Good luck!!,Bob
Like my old Volvo 544 with 4wd.I seldom regret neversieze or threadlocker
