I recently was going too fast through a residential neighborhood where they have those roundabouts and my car skipped over it and hit something from the bottom. I looked at the underside of my car and I cant see and obvious scratch marks even tho there are marks on the roundabout.
Anyways, now my car makes a banging noise that is rhythmical with the engine and the car vibrates when this happens. I only notice the banging/vibration in upper 2nd, 3rd and lower 4th. And its only when my foot is on the gas.
btw, its an 83 4wd sr5
I'm a self taught mechanic and haven't encountered this problem yet so I don't really have any clue what it could be
Any ideas fellow tercelebrationers?

Re: Rattling, banging and vibration
There are few things that could cause this:
It could be damaged CV joint, or a bent half shaft. It is worse when you turn and accelerate one way over the other?
Also check your engine mounts, a damaged mount could cause exactly this behavior. Usually it allows the engine/trans to hop around under acceleration, but acts normal under cruise or decelerating. Use a pry bar to try and lift the mount clear. If the rubber is not solidly attached, you need to replace it. These rarely fail, so getting one at a pull-a-part type wrecking yard is a pretty safe bet.
You may have bent the rim or lost a balance weight, and it is just hitting a harmonic at those speeds. Ususally this would get worse with speed, but it is possible to have a large harmonic at one speed.
It is possible you have a damaged drive shaft or u-joint on the axle, it would be worse in 4wd. But is still could occure in 2wd since the drive shaft is still rotating any time you are moving.
It is also possible you bent or damage a suspension bush or tie-rod and it is now out of alignment, and there is a harmonic at those speeds.
It is not likely you damaged the engine or trans, it would be more obvious (big oil leak, damaged pan or case, etc.) I would think.
Good luck

Re: Rattling, banging and vibration
Your exhaust is now hitting on the car?
Give a boy a gun-give a biatch a cell phone-and pretty soon you almost got yourself a police state.
