Proper sunroof lubrication

Post by Snax »

My sunroof has been on the sticky side since I bought the car this last summer, but it has for the most part worked until recently. I know it's really just a problem with lubrication though, as squirting some WD40 into the tracks freed it up considerably, but I don't think WD40 is a long term solution there. So does anybody know the proper way to lubricate one of these things? I don't want to just randomly dump oil into the track, as there's no telling where it may end up - and I most certainly don't want it dripping inside.

Get some thick grease, Ithink it's like polygraph or whatnot. Just open up the sunroof and put some right in front of the roof on the tracks, then put it down, and just keep working it. The grease will coat the track all nicely and shouldn't be too visible.

That's what would be easier and probably cheapest.

The FSM just mentions using MP grease on the cables - nothing about the guides/tracks, although that certainly seems logical.
Neither the '85 nor the '86 OMs mention anything about sunroof maintenance.

Ok, I think lubing just the tracks will be ok then. Like I said, it started working pretty well after the WD40. I'm assuming the cable mechanism is pretty imune to rust stopping it up by the way it's covered.
