Tires that can fit on the stock rims.

Post by Neu »

So I'm wanting to beef up my tires, but i dont really want to buy new rims/wheels.

So i know the stock size is 175/70SR13, which is what I have (small, too small) and there's no variety in the tread aggresiveness on this size.

so what sizes will fit on the stock rims (I know nothing about tire sizes/compatability).

I have used Dunlop SP40 185/70-13's, but the selection for 13 and 14" rims is getting pretty meager.

There's quite a few threads already on this subject that you could probably search through.

I bought some 14" 2002 Corolla steel rims for $1 off ebay so that I could have a better selection of rubber (they have a similar offset). I ended up putting Hangkook Optimo Silica tyres on (175/70) and have been really happy with them as they seem to be pretty economical and are meant to be 25% better long lasting (I rotate often) and are also very quiet. I used them over about 500kms on dirt roads in Tasmania earlier this year and they were fine for a road tyre. I only go off road about 6 times a year though. Speedo is about 7%off.

But i want aggressive tires.

I use this:

There are some 185/70/13 Kumhos that look good. Been real happy with my 195/60/14s. I go by the User Reviews...there are people who drive AWD and 4WD who review tires.

Or maybe the Blizzak's...not sure how well they'd do in summer.

i remember seeing those kumho 175 70 R13 offroad tires on tiretrends.com about 5 years ago, they were $138 a pirce i think, but they would have ben some pretty cool tires for the turtle.
