Welcome to the Club!
I, too, have an '86 T4WD - but the "economy vacuum switch" is a new one to me. Where did you hear of it / see a reference to it? Maybe on European-spec Tercs only? Did the sedans have it as well? Maybe the French members have an answer if it is Euro-specific. Their Club, with many pages of crazy stuff, is: http://www.forum-auto.com/les-clubs/sec ... 376135.htm
An excellent info source is the AutoZone site (AZ is a huge chain of auto parts stores here in the USA).
The link to the site is: http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairGuide.htm
This is even better than the FSM - plus, it has photos, whereas the FSM has only diagrams.
This also has all of the vac diagrams.

T4WD augury?

Thank you very much for great answer.
"Economy vacuum switch" is my unqualified term of it. There is green/orange light on fascia-board of my tercel and it shall indicate if i ride economicaly or not. The light is actuated by " EVS ". The switch is placing near HAC valve.
It´s probably european speciality.

Aha!
Your explanation now rings a bell -it seems that I remember that VW had something similar on the cars it brought over during the '80s. The car magazines here dismissed it as a gadget.
My beloved '86 Mazda 626 had a sort-of-similar item, in that it had a "shift-up" light which advised one when to move the lever for maximum economy (the shift points were certainly not for max acceleration!).
Many Tatraplans still around there?

Basically. More of a switch than a gauge though.takza wrote:A kind of vacuum gauge without a dial?
I remember seeing them now and then, back in the early 80's. Mostly foreign and few domestic, that also had the shift lights.
The system is also designed so under very low manifold vacuum/wide open throttle the light stays off, as economy isn't an issue during that time.

Can i have next one question?
There are reflector washers on my Terc but i don't know how to use them. There isn't switch in cockpit.

Washers for the headlights? I saw them on a Tercel in Sweden... I think it also mentions them in the handbook- give me a yell if you want me to have a look at the book for you.

There is some electronics on headlights washer chamber, maybe i must use some few functions together . My father have them on WV Passat too , he must turn headlights on and at the same time push windows washer switch for 5 seconds . I try it but no answer .

It might be connected to the windshield washer system, when you spray water on the windshield, it also sprays on the headlights. If you follow the supply tube to the pump you can verify this, if there is a separate pump then you will need to find a wire diagram and see where the switch is located, the color wire going to it, etc. It is possible it goes to one of the "dead" switches on either side of the interment panel on most of the examples imported to USA.
I have seem them before, but no on cars in USA.
Good luck.

Re: Economy vacuum switch
Hey Aphex, the book says to clean headlights
"To spray fluid on the headlights, turn the headlight switch to the first or second clickstop (head or side lights on) and push the windshield washer switch twice in succession (button at end of wiper stalk)"
hope that works for you.
cheers
