With the help of some excellent info on this site, I've found the root of my carb /gas problems to be the AAP (aux. accelerator pump) diaphragm which is leaking gas into the vacuum system. I'm having a hard time locating a replacement. A Toyota dealer is quoting me $122 to bring one up from CA...I sense a rip-off in the works. Supposedly, NAPA has a carb kit that includes one but they need the carb model # to find the right one. They say I will likely need to remove the carb to find this #? Hopefully I don't have to do this. Does anyone know what or where this carb number is? My Tercel wagon is an '87 with a 3AC, Canadian model which does have a different carb than the US...I would suspect this diaphragm to be the same on both though. If anyone can find me a part # for the carb, the kit or the diaphragm itself it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

The (Toyota) carb number is a 5-digit number on a small aluminum tag fastened to the top of the carb with one of the screws that hold the carb together. Should be able to see it with the air cleaner housing removed.
The Toyota EPC (electronic parts catalogue) shows the (original) p/n for the aap diaphragm (8504 thru 8801 prod dates for the AL25 with 3A# engines) as 21667-72080 - superceded by p/n 21675-35510, according to a search here http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/ ... eid=213824 for the original p/n.
The Hygrade kit I bought a year or so ago from T&T Auto Parts (Hygrade # 1622) comes with the diaphragm. The kit cost me ± $40 IIRC.
I'm also running with the vacuum line to the aap plugged, and the fitting capped on the carb end. Runs fine when warmed up, but a bit of hesitation when cold - got used to it after a while.
