Converting from fixed hatch widow to a liftglass

Post by brevell »

In my business I sometimes have to carry very long (15 to 20 feet but lightweight) boards. There is a trailer hitch attachment called a Hitchhand which can extend the carrying capacity of a pickup bed or could be used on any vehicle. It extends about four feet out the back of the hitch and is useful for carrying long loads. If I could convert the fixed hatch glass to a liftglass such as you see in SUVs it would make it easier to carry the long boards than to lift the hatch. Has anyone done this type of conversion and can you point me to some instructions?

Thanks, Burt

you could, but a roof rack would be easier.

The roof rack would be easier, carry even longer boards and a lot safer. I would hate to think what would happen if someone even lightly hit the board sticking out the back. Besides consider that a 20 footer would hang out the back by about 10 feet! With a rack it would hang over the front and back about 2 feet each.
