Ok, I'm not going to try to break any records with this one, but I'm just looking for a ballpark figure on how long it should take me to replace my stock carb with the new Weber 32/36 DGEV kit I just got this week?
It looks like a simple job to install it, but what about cleanup of all of the other ancilliary crap in the way of vacuum lines and such? Does all of that pretty much just go away with removing the stocker, or am I going to have to reroute and cap some things that the kit might not provide for?
I know I need to drop fuel pressure to about 2 psi with a pressure regulator, and I should have that by the end of this next week and don't plan to install the carb until I have that.

Cripes, I'm glad I didn't have to reconnect anything more than the EGR and distributor after removing that vacuum mess!
Apparently I got shipped the tall filter however. I don't have time to wait for them to ship the right one, so a razor knife and silicone have done the trick on shortening the one I did receive.
I'm not so sure I've got the distributor advance hooked up right, but otherwise it seems to run well - though I have yet to actually take it around the block.

the tercel uses a combination of mechanical and vacuum advance/retard for the ignition. without the vacuum lines, the ignition timing will still change, only at a much slower rate.
I know this because I checked it myself with the timing light because i disconnected the vacuum lines to the distributor once i found out there was a leak in the diaphragm that was causing a vacuum leak which in turn made the car idle a little bit rough.

That is incorrect.keith wrote:You don't need a pressure regulator, the fuel pump only puts out 2.5 to 3 psi.
The factory toyota fuel pump puts out approx 7.5 psi.
It will work with the weber, but it will start leaking from every seal after a while.
You DO need a return type fuel pressure regulator after the OEM pump.

My reman only puts out 2.5 to 3 psi, but I'm curious as to where you the 7.5 psi spec from. As to leaking, the Weber should not leak at 7.5 psi. When a carburetor leaks due to fuel pressure, its due to the needle and seat, not the seals. There is a vitron needle available for the Weber if the brass needle doesn't hold.
I ordered a pressure guage with my regulator, but I have yet to install the guage. I'm inclined to agree with Keith however, as when I set the regulator to 2.5 psi, it starves out the floats when trying to start it cold. I'd wager that if the pump were putting out 7psi, that would not be an issue at all. Now I have the regulator set to 5.
Perhaps that's one of those things they changed along the way though. I'll likely get the guage installed this weekend for the full skinny.
That said, I like it! Although it doesn't seem to have a fast idle for cold starts, at least the choke now works and it doesn't blow a bunch of black raw fuel smelling exhaust and studder for the first minute. It just runs smoothly.
I had some trouble getting the idle speed and idle mixture setup at first, but that was apparently due to low fuel pressure even at the 3 psi setting. I suspect the regulator is optimistic toward the high side.
I was also able to confirm that I have the vac line on the right fitting for the distributor.
So is it me, or did it realy increase my horsepower that much? (Thinking even 3-4 HP improvement is allot in this case.)
Hopefully I see an even greater improvement in fuel economy. I got mid-20MPG on the first tank absolutely babying the rpms, coasting, and not idling excessively. Is it unreasonable to expect >30?

I was getting roughly 20mpg (+/-2) when I had my 205/15/16's on (roughly same size as stock)but now with my huge tires my speedo is off. But then again my driving is WOT or idling at a stoplight...

Go for it:
