Good "finds" at the junk yard

Post by MootsMan »

Ok, I was wondering, since most of us are frequent customers of our local junk yards, what some of the best or most unusual stuff you've found in cars at the junkyard. I've brought home all kinds of stuff , including a few tools that were left in the cars, but the best thing ever was just the other day, when I found a Matco 3/8", long handle ratchet in near perfect condition !! It was well worth the price of admission that day !!
1984 Tercel 4wd Dlx. - 192K miles.
1985 Tercel 4wd SR5 - 185K miles (not running)
1986 Tercel 4wd Dlx - 210K miles (dd)

Only 3 to go for the whole set ! lol

A bar quality budwieser beer conversion van custom interior visor. It was a bonus from the same van that gave us a tranny for our(party friends conglomerate inc.) 76 shorty dodge conversion van that could burn rubber beyond belief.

Towed away due to lack of interest and more importantly, expired tabs and lazy title holder. It was fun while it lasted......

The first thing I ever sold on ebay was a set of genuine Minilites for a BMW 2002. I bought them at the pick-n-pull for $50, and sold them for $450. The guy paid me to have the tires removed rather than ship them, so the almost new tires went on the Tercel.

Back in the 80s I found a factory rear window louver on a 1970 Torino. The guy at the junkyard didn't want to pull it, so he sold it to me for $20. I sold it to a guy who'd been looking for one for years, and he gave me $550.

I've found more tools in the junkyard than I could count. Unfortunately, that's also where I lost my favorite set, the only tools my wife has ever bought me.

The wheels I didn't buy still bother me. There was a set of 13" Fondmetals on a Tercel wagon at the pick and pull about 4 years ago. They were in good condition, complete with center caps, $50 for the set. These were the ones with the "FONDMETAL" billboard lettering all around the rim, and would have been great on my Tercel. Unfortunately, I was thinking in another direction, and let them get crushed with the car.

I'm ashamed to mention the free 86 terc (the INTERIOR was trashed!) that I passed up because I was too busy looking for parts I couldhave grabbed off that oneGRRR!-but recently, I asked a junkyard guy what he wanted for his jack stands, and he said 5- I go "carp!, that's all I got, and I need to get this handfull of muffler hangers and spare bolts and lithium grease", he goes, okay 5 for all, but you gotta take that big tool box full of odds and ends, too. I said thanks, and I'm still finding weird cool stuff in that greasy tool box: impala letters, triumph(?) tail light, big washers, light sockets, tie rod bumpers.... and a really sharp razor- I just love digging for treasure though, glad I'm not the only one
