Blower Motor

Post by Typrus »

Its dead. Just croaked. Made odd noises for a few days then stopped working. All fuses in tact, relay clicks on and off....
Thoughts?

At this rate I'll have body panel falling off. (laughs) oh well. I have to replace my Terc soon regardless (I don't plan to get rid of it, just get something else for now)

Sounds like motor croaked. They are not that hard to change if you have a good set of tools. I think there are 3 screw/bolts holding it in ,you access it from underneath. You might have to pull the passenger kick panel to get at it. If I remember right a shorty phillip's head or offset phillip's head are the key to getting at the hard to reach screw. One time I just had to clean out a mouse nest and it worked again. You could disconnect the wiring plug to it and check for juice to confirm it's the motor before pulling it.

Shit....
Fan turns. Put 10 amps @ 12 volts to it, it turns at full speed.
Fan plug gets voltage. 12.00v to be exact.

What the heck is going on? I'm annoyed now.... (grumble)

Also, how do I get the condenser/heat core box out?

How did you figure that you put 10 amps to it, did you use an ammeter?

Since the fan still turns, I will recommend that you check the blower motor resistor. It's right behind the heater control panel. It's held in by one phillips screw, but to get to it you have to remove the glove box and the vent tube (don't know the name) right above. Then you can get to it, just unplug the connector and if the coils are missing a piece, there's the problem. That's what was wrong with mine and it would only turn on the last two speeds, but I went to the junkyard and picked one from an AE82 Corolla (because it was easier to get to it). I installed it and it solved the problem, all I need to do now is replace the control panel, which I know is going to be a major pain.

Good luck!!

Looks to be in tact, but low and behold......
Zero resistance anywhere in it.

THANK YOU T4wdRULES. I would not have thought of that.
