back fire?

Post by mickey »

I've got an 83 SR5 with 308k recently reserected from the back 40 after having traided it with the neighbor for an out board motor and then repurchasing back for 100 dollars a year later, yada yada yada, its running great except for this loud pop ussually on desceleration and always after its heated up, won't happen at all when cold. Its like a gurgle gurgle pop sorta thing, I have been told its somehow sucking air in through the exhaust, however there is no visible leak? Any ideas

Backfire

Post by El SR6 »

I have the exact same problem . 83 SR5, 228,000 miles, and it backfires only when it's above 70 degrees outside. I know there's an exhaust leak, because I can hear the leak, I just haven't been able to locate it yet.

Good method for finding an exhaust leak- SeaFoam a running engine down the carb (CAREFULLY) and you will soon have smog pouring from the offending leak.
In my case.... The manifold to head connection... The mannie to downtube... DT to cat... Cat to back half... lol. My system sucks. The 2 or 2.25 will be in before too long.
