Ram Air?

Post by kamiphloj »

I read a thread about turbos blowing thru a carb and it inspired my question.Has anyone played? Also Smoky Yunick suggested using a nanometer to find areas of low atmospheric pressure to locate the exhaust tailpipe.kamiphloj

Neverseize or Loctite,pick one.

Issue with Ram Air is that its only effective at higher speeds. Sure, it'd be nice for us wanting upper power, but standard city cruisers would benefit little to none.
Area of low atmospheric pressure? Right behind the tailgate
Venting it out the side and using a turndown tip pointing rearwards creates an area of low pressure behind the end. Essentially a venturi effect.
I personally think where it vents stock is probably pretty low pressure.
Behind the car at any point of no direct flow, ie behind the bumper. Even behind an obstruction such as the axle is a low-pressure zone.

I agree with you.In town, its nothing, and its best I not get frisky in town, but a little extra passing power at 65 might be helpful. My understanding is that if it is not done properly the carb becomes confused. Is it necessary to put the whole carb in a box and boost the box or do you just need to equalize the bowl?I,m not too checked out on it. I am more interested in how happy a Weber would be,as I am interested in that.
By the way, fetching plates for the F-150 at Larico they said I wouldn't need emissions after year end.The program is going away. Also the 83 would be eligible for classic/collector plates in 2008 as I understand it.Thank you kamiphloj
