What's this part called????

I just broke something.....I was repalcing the thermostat and when I tightned the nuts, the bottom one snapped something. When i took off the housing that the hose slips onto, the bolt and a piece of aluminium from the piece that the water pump bolts onto was broken off.....oops!! Is this part of the engine or something that can be replaced? If it can be replaced, what's it caqlled? Any info would help!!

I think the part i broke is behind this, it's the part the thermostat fits into.

if its not steel (magnetic) its not part of the engine block.

Just took a look at my car...and that is part of the cylinder head.

I'd have someone that can weld alum to weld it back on...might have to retap it...etc.

Need to be very careful here...be sure all the old gasket is cleaned up and use a new one with some goop?

If the surface is uneven or part of the gasket is missing...the tabs can break?
