My nephew gave my son his 87 tercel but one wheel is loose and not turning with the other wheel when the steering wheel is turned, like something major is broken. We have not seen the car since last summer but are going to travel to check it out next weekend and we will get a manual for it too. Does anyone know what this could be?
Thanks
Mark

Welcome !
Some suggestions are:
tierod(s) broken/missing;
steering rack broken/very loose on crossmember;
steering knuckle not attached to the strut.
most likely the first, I would think.
It should be pretty evident upon examination; take along a floor jack and some stands.
