I rebuilt the tranny using custom milled parts. I got a custom flywheel and got a local company to mill custom brass gears and output shafts. The rear of my car was a rx-7 IRS rear end. You are right, if you beat on your car, it will not take the power of the 20v. If you are gentle and do rare hard accelerations with no wheelspin (very hard task), you'll be ok.

Are you still selling your tranny? I'm making money now and I might be interested.

IRS rear will not just "bolt up" there is some cutting and bracing to do as well as other modifacations. It is not for the ocasional fabber out there. It is actually alot of work if you have not done this type of stuff before. As i had originally planned on using the strait axle off of a GSL-SE, i had already mapped and cut the pumpkin out etc so the IRS would fit properly. Now the thing to remember is, my car was 2WD to start off with and a HB at that!!! There was no hump for a rear axle. It had to be made!!! I also had IRS to begin with so lower control arms and sway bars were already there!!! I really don't know what you'd have to do other than make a frame for the rear pumpkin and get shorter axles. Not to mention fab up some IRS framing at the back for control arms and proper strut assemblies!! Just stay with what works - - - Strait axles!!

Oh oh, don't forget that the mating of the drive shafts are different from the toyota drive shaft to the mazda, you'll have to get a different u-joint pressed in or something. Seeing as how i went custom (cuz i could) i really don't know if you can just do that!!!

I was using rx-7 Rear breaks at the time.
