well ive had extreme heating issues for the past 2 months or so but everytime it over heated bad, i would always pull to the side of the road and let it cool off. So one day, i let my friend borrow the tercel and two hours later, he drives it back to my house and i see the motor steaming. yeah, the fool drove it when it was over heating. PISSED ME OFF. Well 2 nights ago, i put a new water pump in and had the radiator flushed(pressure treated.) So i got everything put back in, and now the tercel wont start, i check the fuel pump, ignition and they were all working good. i check the carb, bad carburator. I then rebuild the carb and bolt it back on. I then turn the key and my battery takes a shit on me, i then jumped the battery. THEN i finally get the tercel to start and it starts to overheat quick. I notice my fan isnt working so i turn the car off. after a 2 hours of working on the fan i get it to work, i turn the car on, fan turns on and it actually cools it pretty damn good. Then my friend and I took my tercel around the block, it starts to overheat, i then park it at my friends house and pop the hood to see water/oil shooting out of the valve covers. So in other words, blew the head.
looks like im going to have a FUN summer replacing that thing. I dont care what it takes, im going to fix this thing. It has been in the family since 1983 and i love this damn car. what a week! ahah
DAMN!

My Beloved Sister did this to my '83 in '85 (minus all of your travails before the head cracked, though). She was accustomed to idiot lights in her Escort and did not notice the temperature gauge climbing. She saw steam, so "I drove it back to your house as fast as I could."'
I got back from CA, and saw the crack in the radiator, so removed it and had it fixed. I installed it and kept pouring water in it - after a couple of gallons and the thing wouldn't start, I finally noticed water coming out of the tailpipe -
- and then the realization set in....
This cost 1100 1985-grade dollars, and then it turned out that a couple of rings were cracked - so it was "Adios, Tercel and Hello, 626"
She contends to this day that the car did "..not act funny...". This was the cause of a lengthy estrangement at the time. I should have known better than to let her use that sweet little car while I was gone...

You probably warped the head my friend.
Your first mistake was keeping driving it when it ever overheated.
You'll want to remove the head and make sure it all measures to spec. Check for warping, cracking, etc.

Overheating caused part of the death of my old '83. Now that I think about it, I believe the head /or block was cracked when it was sold. Water would shoot out of the tailpipe and sometimes there would be a puddle of water on the floor.
The one that I have now also is spitting water out of the tailpipe under acceleration and the smell of ethylene glycol is very strong but you can't see it burning. It's the head gasket. I have no account of it overheating when we've had it. I still haven't opened the engine but I've put it off until summer vacation (including the other stuff that needs to be done). The car has been sitting since Feb. Good luck fixing your car!
