Sprinter Carib in the U.S.A.

Post by Nordical25 »

I found this brochure some time ago for sale and bought it. I wanted to share it to you since we have lots of members from the U.S.A. Hopefully you will enjoy this one.

Apparently Toyota took an early Sprinter Carib 4wd to lots of different places in the 80's.

Many moons ago, my wife surprised me on my birthday with a photo album of a Tercel bikini carwash that a friend shot for her. It was funny and fantastic. What a gift.

Is that one a February 1983? Mine is a February 1983. You can tell if the four digit code after the dash after the 6-digit code is 5802. = SHOWA PERIOD 58TH YEAR (The Japanese way of saying 1983) and 02 is the second month of the year so February.

The RV Special was introduced in April 1983 as a High-Flash 2-Tone Transgrade model like Transgender ppl but Transgrade cars

I do have it. I found one recently. I can scan it also when I visit this forum next time. It is too late to scan it when visiting this forum. But next time you can read about Sprinter Carib in Canada at last.

I have same code 5802.

I bet that Toyota made a small print of these brochures.

5802 means SHOWA 58TH YEAR is 1983 which I already was smart enough to already know but if you don't, here's a link: https://www.yearwiz.com/japan/showa/58 and then 02 means 2nd month of the year so February.

I have same code 5802.

I bet that Toyota made a small print of these brochures.

Apparently the first ever RV SPECIAL model came out in April 1983 as a two-tone (High-Flash Two-Tone (red/black)) transgrade model with sports seats, like the AV-II (SR5), and that one went into September 1983 according to my parts catalog for the Sprinter Carib. Then in October 1983, lasting into Jan 1988, they made an actual DLX RV SPECIAL without sports seats but still plaid cloth ones, (because DLX and other luxury models are not supposed to have sports seats), still using the urethane bumpers from before.

I am personally a fan of the GENERAL MARKET Tercel 4wd because ZWFDS is close to MWFNS and because the ZWFDS also came in RHD form, like the Carib and had the same front end until at least 1986 as the Carib. The American one and Canadian ones had the same front end as most Caribs from 08.1982 to 01.1988 minus the amber clear corners and the 08.1986 to 01.1988 hybrid (clear corners with amber stripes) found on the 3rd period models like mine. The American and Canadian ones also lacked the front sidemarker lights which doubled as side turn signals unlike the American and Canadian red rear ones which were only for sidemarker but not for side brake lights.

There was an AV-I SPECIAL model, (between the Low AV-I and the AV-I RV SPECIAL), made between 08.1984 to 05.1986 but I'm having the usual trouble getting Yahoo! Japan Auctions sellers to list one for sale, though I have a November 1985 Carib WHITE LIMITED brochure and Tercel 4WD VL/VE EXTRA and Corsa 4WD GX/EX EXTRA Brochures and I just got this brochure from Japan:
