Hi,
I am looking to do some body work on my 85' Tercel Wagon SR5 and believe I would be better off buying new fenders as what I have is pretty rusted out.
I can't find any new ones online. Does anyone have a rust free set they want to sell or know of somewhere that sells them? I am also looking for some 4wd mud flaps. I live in the Yukon but can have things shipped to Alaska as I have friends that live a few hours away.
Thanks,
Andrew
Fenders and Mudflats
Re: Fenders and Mudflats
Has anyone bought fenders new? Rockauto says they sell them but are out of stock. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Andrew

I do not think Rockauto will ever have any stock.

Re: Fenders and Mudflats
A lot of the suppliers for body shops sell new body parts, however on a car this old it seems unlikely that anyone would inventory them. the wrecking yard is your best be, but you are not likely to find any "perfect" fenders, though likely much better than what you have now.
also, something to consider, I have recused a few tercels that had aftermarket fenders on them from some previous owners likely insurance covered repairs. The body shop supplied fenders were much lighter (thinner), and had very poor rust protection on them, so it rusted away even though the rest of the car was rust free. Also, the paint the body shop used faded from the gold (Topaz) to a dull gray on the repaired places. I just happened to have a gold colored fender in my garage (salvaged from a junk 2wd Tercel going to a scrap yard), I swapped it out and noticed the difference in the quality of the fenders. The 30 year old factory fender had no rust, but the after market fender that rusted out (in a California car btw), was all rusty on the inside (where it does not show), was thinner and lighter. The factory paint matched perfectly, I used rubbing compound to get off the faded repair paint from the door and hood, to exposed the still good factory paint under it. The replacement fender and paint looked perfect, like it was never even fixed. The remarkable thing was that the factory paint from two different tercels, from two different states, matched perfectly after 30 plus years. So if you can find decent rust free fenders of the same color, you will end up with a lot less work and more durable repair than if you buy after market fenders.

Re: Fenders and Mudflats
I bought new fenders from Lordco here in BC a few years back. They might still be available.
