ISO 6 speed transmission

Post by Defend_Dingo »

For those that don't know the main output gear is dead in mine, I know eBay sells remade ones so I might rebuild the transmission later but until then I need to get a new complete transmission assembly

There's a company on eBay that parts out JDM import cars every week or so but I missed the last 6 speed they had for sale. Seeing how much it would cost to buy one off you all and ship it over?

About $1 a pound I've seen from other posts
I'm not too certain

Mine is a 1986, I'm in Phoenix AZ

Willing to drive to neighboring states

Go figure, I'm in Farmington but my spare 4.1 transmission is tied up with the car it needs installed in, unless you want the whole car + transmission for $500?

I dunno about the entire car, my parents are already mad that I parked one in their yard LOL

I'll keep that in mind though. Tempting.

It'll run but the transmission thrashed itself in second and is stuck. Bought it that way, bought a transmission to go in her, but have not had time to start on the replacement yet.

I had that happen on one of mine, it got stuck in 2nd gear and it would not shift no matter how hard I pulled and pushed on the shift lever. I drove it 40 miles to home over mountainous roads, kept speeds to 20 to 35 mph (much to the unhappyness of those behind me). made it home, and swaped the trans out. a few years later I took it apart, and we could not find any thing wrong with it, nor why it was stuck in gear. Did a complete rebuild on it with the last remaining kit I located in North America (cost $550, but I now have a new set of syncros in it, as well as all major bearings, seals and gaskets).

I had another one that happened to some years before, it was low on gear oil. I limped it home, it was making a lot of bad noises, when I drained the gear oil the next day, a lot metal parts came out with it. that one I just junked.

I've never actually seen if it'll actually drive in second, I'm just guessing because that is where the shifter "looks" to be, but it flops all over.

So you mean you have the complete car with the old tranny AND the new 4:1 tranny for $500?

If the rear tires are good on it, at least, then it's about a ~7.5 hour drive for me in my Jeep going <60 the whole way (it's old)

I'm already used to the feel of that, since I just did it last weekend halfway along the same route from where I picked mine up from

Uhh what else... is the title good on it? Do you have it notarized already?
I can leave tomorrow morning and be there before noon

Oh also how many miles does that one have on it? And how many does the spare 4:1 have?

Yes, I have a complete car, hasn't been run in 8-10 years.

300k miles
no body or underside rust, but the paint is faded, slight surface rust in spots
sunroof
roof rack
transmission blown
new CV axles
the rear tires are shot but the front holds air (could be swapped)
the engine cranks, oil isn't milky, it wanted to cough to life with starting fluid, various bits may or may not be there, the PO was not kind to it
dirty/smelly inside (rear window was shot out and cats lived inside)
with a new hatch/rear window
replacement transmission out of a totalled Tercel. She just bought the car, bought fast food and pulled out in front of someone. there were still fries in it 15 years later HAHA. I do not recall the miles. It was totalled in like 1998  it was low, I'm pretty sure, around 90-120k
stock wheels are gone, has steels now
stock seats are gone (they were completely trashed) and replaced with SR5 brown plaid from an 83
windshield cracked

The title is fully in my name.

I am not sure if she could be towed on the rear wheels unless you disconnect the rear driveshaft as I think she is stuck in 2nd.

So what would your plans be for this car, or your current tercel?

Oh so the 4:1 replacement transmission is the one stuck in second?

Or wait is that one just sitting loose with the car and the original transmission is the one stuck in second?

My high goal is to get both of them working, eventually...

We definitely want her to go to a good home that will save her, and not just end up as a parts car!

No, the one in the car is stuck in second, the one I pulled from the totaled tercel should be perfectly functional.

If you came out, Sunday would probably work better. She's behind my RV trailer and someone is coming out tomorrow to help me move it, unless you were here mid/late afternoon.

First 7 are pictures of the car.
