Good morning, I have a quick question about adjusting the valves on this 3ac motor. I pulled the valve cover off for the sole purpose of cleaning it up an putting a new gasket on it as the old gasket leaked. I figured I would adjust the valves while I had the cover off, well I just looked at the FSM and it says to do this while the engine is warm. I would rather not have to put it all back together, start it and pull it back part to do this.
My question is, can the valves be adjusted when the engine is cold, and if so are the clearances the same?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Valve Adjustment Question
I've done it both ways on the 3AC and a 22RE and never had an issue with the valve clearance changing between cold and warm.

Re: Valve Adjustment Question
There is a cold clearance and a hot clearance. The cold clearance is in the engine rebuild section.

Re: Valve Adjustment Question
when cold set to cold clearances
engine will run a bit noiser than when set hot
probably would not hurt anything to leave at cold clearances but i would not run my cars that way

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Re: Valve Adjustment Question
I have also found on the 3ac adjusting it cold always leaves them noisy. do it as warm as you can handle the engine to the warm clearances, and it will run quite.
