Ad says it needs an engine. Too expensive.

Yeah, its actually my daughters car. Yes it needs an engine, and yes she is asking too much for it. I tried to tell her that but you know kids. It is in pretty good shape for a 1985. What's an 84 terc with blown engine worth?

haha, romarvi. KIDS.

hard to tell exactly what kind of shape it's in from the pics but if it's decent, i think you might get $500-$600 for it, tops. it's tough to sell cars that need work.

it would be a shame to sell it for parts, it could be fixed to be a good daily driver. any car that you can not test drive always represents a big risk for any buyer, you do not know what else it will need besides the thing that keeps it from running (the engine). A good clean body and interior, even with a bad engine, is worth perhaps $500-600. As much as $800 if everything else was in good condition (tires, brakes, shocks, etc.) But if the transmission, wheel bearings, supervention, etc also needs work, it would be a very questionable purchase at that price.

having a shop replace or rebuild the engine means anywhere from $1000-2000, and than it might be worth about $3000 if it was in good driving condition and nothing else was wrong with it. Likely you can replace the engine if you can get someone to volunteer the labor for perhaps $600. which would be worth doing to get it sold at a good price.

Does it really need a "new" engine, or does it just need a head gasket or other repairs? Replacing a blown head gasket is not too difficult a job and would make the car worth more. OTHO, if the engine is totally blown and not rebuildable, than a wrecking yard might give you $200 (who would crush it for scrap) and a Tercel4wd enthusiast might give $600 for it.

Petros, just wondering what a 'supervention' is. New terminology to me.

We got a perfect condition FWD Wagon with 60k miles and a blown engine for $300, put an engine in it and we love it every day!

Yeah, its a great car sans the blown engine. Its made a bunch of trips from Missoula to Olympia WA, be to San Fransisco and back not to mention commutes from Olympia Portland. I'm still considering buying a crate motor and swapping the engine out. Its still got a lot left her.

it is what is needed when the "suspension" badly needs an intervention. 8)

a 4ac long block will also fit perfectly, you need to swap over all the external parts, but they are more common since they came in the corrolas from the same years as the second gen Tercel
