84 sr5 HATCHBACK (rare) - nanaimo, bc - $500

when i first saw this i thought someone had swapped sr5 gear in from a 4wd wagon but the seats look quite different from any 4wd wagons i've seen. plus i think it's just too complete a swap, it looks factory to me: the rub strips, the wheels, the dash cluster w/ tach, the old canadian sr5 steering wheel, and the seats (matching front and back). i have only seen one or two sr5 hatchbacks in all my internet tercel searching so i think they're pretty rare.

i actually think it's kind of neat.

DEfinitely factory, and definitely rare! Only ones I've ever seen are completely beat up.

Look on the last page of the '84 catalog here: http://www.toyotareference.com/tercel/1983-1988 and in the spec sheet second to the last. It was basically the same spec as the SR5 wagon, save for the obvious body style and 4WD. It was also available in '83.
While I bought a new SR5 Wagon in late '82, I did not even look at the SR5 sedan, as I needed the Wagon (and loved its funky-for-the-time appearance).
Maybe the sedan was close enough to the wagon in price that it just did not sell - or - maybe it was close to the similarly-equipped Corolla SR5?

that's a really cool link, tom. i like the timeline that shows what colours were available for which years. even the timeline graphics for the two-tones are two-toned! very well done.

it's pointless but i keep looking at this sr5 hatchback. we don't need it at all and i couldn't hope to flip such a car but there's something about it that really piques my curiosity. it's probably just the sr5 elements reminding me of t4's though.
