Clock on instrument cluster stopped working

Post by 84sr54wd »

When my car showed up on the carrier, the clock on the cluster was working. I don't recall when it stopped working a couple days later, but I thought maybe it had something to do with the battery being disconnected when I was working on the a/c compressor. I have it all hooked back up and everything works fine, but the clock on the cluster is dark and not illuminated in the least. Any ideas? Why would it suddenly and strangely go out a couple days after the car show up I wonder. Perhaps I can find another used cluster?

check the fuses first.

worst case scenario, you can swap another clock into your current cluster so your miles/kms on the odometer are correct.

i was wondering about fuses....but thought since the backlighting on the cluster seems ok and nothing obvious is NOT working...perhaps it was the clock but why all of a sudden. Is there a fuse just for the clock I wonder?

irowiki had an issue with a clock a while back. here's what he said about the power for it.
irowiki wrote:The clock gets power from three places, dome light (to keep time), accessory (to turn clock on) and tail light (I guess to either light it up or dim it?)
so check all of those fuses. they are located in the driver kick panel and on the driver side of the engine bay.

I feel like a complete idiot HAHA...i just went out into my garage as the second I read your response, I said to myself...I bet I blew it the other day when i was messing with the new pop in cigarette lighter I bought to complete the dash since mine was missing. Sure enough, the 15AMP down in the driver's kickpanel was blown and my owner's manual has the clock and cig lighter on the same circuit. Problem solved. I always do that with electrical...I panic and think something major has happened. Thank you so much for putting me in gear!!!! That is one less hassle to overcome!

I installed a new headlight switch tonight...MAN is that ever fun to do. I pulled the entire steering wheel and had to drop the column 3/4 of an inch or so to get the top column shroud out. That little ball bearing in the end of the switch stalk that goes into the column is a PITA to deal with. Got that done today too though....she is coming along. I am going to post in the parts section for some sun visors I am looking for. Thanks again....
