1983 Tercel SR5 feeler

This forum is for cars that run, or at least are close to running. This isn't for parting out complete cars.

1983 Tercel SR5 feeler

Post by irowiki »

Putting feelers out on Buck. Don't know if we're selling her for sure yet but we have too many cars! Would rather sell the runners off first then work on fixing the not runners, as we're going to end up with a "larger" car for the wife, I'll use Party (87 FWD) to go to work, and that'll leave a beater T4 for camping (probably Snap)

Rescued from the California Crushers! I think it came from Arizona. Federal Emissions. Currently located in Farmington, NM. Would be willing to drive a decent distance to meet someone for delivery.

1983 SR5, 172k miles

The good!

My best runner, doesn't leak or burn oil. Currently running synthetic, gets 28-35 MPG on the highway
Replacement carburetor (came from Nevada)
starts right up when cold, fast idle actually works properly
New tires
new windshield
new cat converter
new battery
some new front suspension or steering components (never got to ask the guy what he did, he died before I picked up the car :( )
"new" fuel pump
"new" Vac advance
"new" coolant/washer fluid bottles
new plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap
front brakes, new pads/rotors
rear brakes, new shoes
No power steering!
transmission fluid changed recently
4WD shifter seal replaced

The bad!

Possible fuel tank issues, fuel gauge doesn't work below 1/4, low fuel light never turns on, might be crud in the tank?
AC doesn't work right now, needs converted and charged
Rear defroster doesn't work, haven't troubleshooted yet, but you can "see through" the wires in the sun so I think they got worn off
Inside is a little rough. Door panels look like they got chewed on by dogs. Might have door panels from another T4 I can swap in. Headliner dirty, cargo carpet is pretty worn out. Front seats are covered by 80's vintage seat covers that are in fairly good shape. Plastic inside shows usual signs of sun wear.
Hazards don't work unless you put the left turn signal on too
Paint is your usual sun baked special. Some rust spots.
Cigarette hole in back seat
Reverse light and 4WD light does not work, something chewed the wires and I haven't had the chance to reattach them yet.

I will be working on some of the "bads" as time goes on.

What do you think she is worth, in current state or with some of the stuff fixed?

Will give her a good cleaning and get more pictures up.

Buck would sell in my area at around $1.500 if advertised properly perhaps $2.000 with a little patience and a really well done add

FIX THE TANK ISSUE so you can be honest and get best price

likely that fuel sender just needs to be removed and the contacts cleaned (there is a thread on doing this, with pictures). you do not even have to remove the fuel tank, you access teh sender from the hatch under the rear carpet.

Clean it up a little and you likely could get $2500 for it in the Puget Sound area. good daily drivers that are mechanically sound get a good price here. The last three I have sold for between 2500 and 3000, all sold in one-two days of listing it for full advertised price. All were SR5 T4wd of various years, all mechanically sound and in good condition, but none were "perfect" as far as body or interior.
