the only tercels from 87 and 88 that will work for you are the wagons, and obviously the 2wd will have many different components but i think the radiator from one would be the same as a 4wd.

the tercel hatchbacks and coupes that started in 87 are totally different beasts as they are part of the third generation of tercels. nothing from them applies to al25's.

all of the second gen tercel radiators are interchangeable. the second gen is '83-86 sedans and hatch backs only, and the '83-88 wagons (note that the '87 and '88 wagons are the second gen body style, but the sedans were changed to the third gen and not much is interchangeable for those years).

There are a coulpe of caviats however: not all of the radiators have the transmissions coolers, so if you have an automatic you will need the radiator with the trans cooler in the bottom (I believe most of the aftermarket have this on all of them). And there were two sizes, single row and double row (the core on the singe low is about 5/8" thick, and the double row is about 1" or 1.2" thick). I have found if the cooling system is in good working order the single row works okay for most uses for the manual transmission, even in high temp environments, but there is not a lot of excess capacity. However I learned recently the auto trans tercel in hot climates must have the double row radiator, it cools both the engine and the trans and at speeds over about 70 mph crossing the Texas desert the single row is not quite enough.

I replaced a good single row radiator with a double row all aluminum one from O'reiley's for about $103 (a great price) and I could drive the auto trans Tercel at 80 plus MPH (the speed limit in Texas) in 100 deg weather, up hill, with the temp staying low.

so if the radiator from the '88 is from a 4wd or 2wd WAGON, (not sendan or hatch back), it should work in your '85.
