clanking in drivetrain
I was driving to a swimming hole last week and the last bit of the drive was up a very steep hill, and then right as we got to the parking area a clanking sound started. It sounds kind of like the wheel of fortune wheel. It stops when the clutch is pushed in, returns when it is released, and happens in neutral as well as in gear. It also does not want to go into 2nd gear. I babied it home and haven't driven since. I've been searching around the forum and it seems like the input shaft bearing is a likely culprit. I'm going to pull the tranny later this week, once I gather a good floor jack to use. Im assuming that once I pull the transmission the problem should be pretty apparent.. Does this sound like the right game plan?

Re: clanking in drivetrain
i agree with your diagnosis. the ISB spins any time the clutch pedal is up, whether it's in gear or in neutral, and does not spin when the clutch is down.
if your terc is a 2wd like your profile says, you should be able to remove the trans with just about any jack. the 2wd transmissions are much smaller and lighter than the 4wd ones. once you get it out you should be able to pick it up and carry it inside your house if you want to work on it somewhere cleaner.

Thank you Dlb.
Does anyone have any leads on getting one of theses bearings. I've been online searching for a few hours now, haven't come up with any leads. I'm in the Bay Area, California...

"Transmission Repair Notes" in "Repair Guides " section list some places to look for bearings
what bearing are you looking for? Input?
also look at You Tube Videos listed in "Repair Guides " section for transmission

Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.

Re: clanking in drivetrain
take the tranny apart before ordering bearings
it's likely but might not be the bearing that is bad
