I got this design from the tow hitch on my unit body cherokee.

Image
The 2x6 box tubing is going to be welded into the brackets, then the origonal bumper will have a section cut out of it for the tube to sink into.

I'm thinking sleeper winch bumper, but not as sleeper as what they have factory in other countries. what do you guys think?

I think I just thought of something even better then my first ideas, but I have to go to work and leave for LA. Crap. Anyways, I'm thinking of making a bracket that connects to the recover tabs (three bolts) and then back into the inner fender well area, where it will bolt into the unit body frame rails through the sides. more simplistic. I will have to move some power steering lines out of the way, and the body rails kind of tapper out towards the front, so the bumper might have to be installed from the ground up instead of being pushed on.

Hey thanks gottolovem. It does have spark to cylinder one, but I think it could still be the problem. it sounds like it is sometimes firing else where in that plug wire before the spark plug...sometimes.

not likely related to the TVSV. it only directs vacuum to different places based on temperature.

did the new engine not come with its own distributor? i would look at the cap, rotor, and wires first. someone else here recently had a problem they couldn't solve, turned out to just be a worn cap.

dlb- nope, the engine came as is. no oil pan, distributor, nothing, just block, head, valve cover. The rotor and cap looked okay when I opened it up to find the position of the rotor for timing. Is it possible that I could test the distro/ plug wires by connecting the cylinder four position wire on the distro to cylinder one?
Gottolovem- I'll be sure to give you a ring once I'm back in town.

Here's what I cam up with.
Image
Blue lines represent the plastic bumper, and the red lines show the bumper bracket. the solid red boxes represent the the box tubing. I did not sketch in the original bumper, because it would complicate the image, but it will be utilized.

Looks like you definitely have some skills when it comes to fab work.
In my opinion the best way to check the ignition system Is to swap it out.Pretty much the entire thing is inside of the distributor.
There is a half off sale this weekend at pick&pull do you want me to get you a dissy if they have one. It's one of those parts that should carry an extra one of.

If you have one plug that isn't firing, it has to be that wire, plug or terminal on the cap specific to that cylinder. If the other three are firing, the distributor should be ok.

you might consider on your bumper a single bar that rises off the top at one end, loops across the front at radiator cap height, and than turns down and welds to the other side. It will protect the head lights, side marker lights, and keep deer off the radiator and hood when they wander on to the road.

hitting a deer is hard on the radiator and body work.

My hotel has Wifi! whoop whoop!

Gottolovem- Pick and pulls half off and I'm out of town?!?!?!?! ahhh dang! Don't worry about chasing a distro for me. You're too nice man! Did you see that they're down to two tercs in the yard?

Good idea petros! Maybe I can find away to make the hoop a bolt on part of the bumper so I can still use the plastic bumper skin.

Check out what I found today!!!! In the small lake town of Mono, 395 south from Reno. I had to pull over to take pictures.
Maybe it's one of us?? I wiped the plates and street signs to be respectful.

Haha I can't count the times I've driven through there. Spent a couple weeks in Lee Vining Rv park with my daughter a few years ago. We bounced around Yosemite, Bodie, Mono lake and mammoth. Good times.

Only 2 tercels at pick&pull if there the same two that have been there for a while now I bet there bare bones.
Is it the one tan 84 that had your inclinometer And the 88 at the end of the same row?
I wonder if there is any in Carson City?

I can't wait to get my Tercel road trip worthy! I'd love to go down to Yosemite.....or even Yellowstone. The car just fits that little town Mono so well, it's almost beautiful.
Oooh, Carson's got an 85 in the yard. And yeah, just the two tercels that you mentioned are left.

I had a problem in which one of the cylinders wasn't firing properly. It turned out my intake manifold was cracked, and so was cylinder head on that same runner.
