Hello!
I'm new, I just got my 85 4WD Tercel two months ago, I was besides myself with joy. Sadly, several weeks ago my transmission completely locked up, I just pulled the transmission out and took it to Columbia Transmission here in Portland Oregon as they have a really good reputation. The guy immediately recognized it and said he doesn't think he can get parts to fix it. If he really can't get parts, are their any other transmissions that will bolt onto my engine? Or? Are their engines I can bolt into the car with transmissions that will work? I really want to keep this car going, I've grown incredibly fond of it but I have no idea what my options are and I'd like to get her back together sooner than later. (In all honesty my wife has stage two breast cancer so getting the car fixed is a bit of a priority so we have two cars again). Any suggestions or tips would be really, really appreciated, thank you very much!!!

Re: Transmission options
there is no other trans that will work in the 4wd tercel. it depends what failed to cause it to lock up, sometimes taking it apart and replacing a few parts may be all it needs.
I have an extra working trans that it the correct type for your year, but it needs the main shaft bearings replaced (it pops out of gear while driving). I do not have time to rebuild it for you, but forum member xirdneh might be able to do it for you. The bearings and seals are still available, so it should make a good working trans once it is gone through and the main shaft bearings replaced. Sounds like the car is worth fixing.

Re: Transmission options
My car is in great shape except for a dent in the rear driver quarter panel and as it's painted truck bed liner black and camouflage it's not entirely noticeable. Thank you so much!
