Post by kitchman »

Hello every one!
Looking for either a link from some one who has successfully under-taken the task of removing the wiper cowl for inspection/cleaning with photos preferably?
Thank you in advance

Thank you for the photos! Was hoping to also get a step by step narrative of the process? Do you really have to remove the bottom glass chrome molding? Also do you have any photos of the mid cowl area and snorkel ? I gather the drain holes got substantially larger, sorry.
Thanks very much

i will try,, first lift the covers on the wiper blade arms that cover the nut heads,, remove the nuts and wiggle the arms to get them off the tapered shafts,,,remove the 4 screws and the 2 plastic push in pins they are at each end,, i just pushed a screw driver in under the rubber and they poped out of the hole they are in,, lift the cowl up and remove,,, the window trim is i took off and used on my wagon when i got a new windshield put in because it was in perfect shape,, in order to take the windshield trim off you have to take the cowl off first to get to the trim hold down screws,, more pics tomorrow

Thanks again for posting these photos. Would you or any one know where/what is the snorkel area that has been made referenced to by some members. Also what is underneath the plastic screens shown in the cowl photos?
Thanks again!

@ kitchman: Reread the 4th post in this link from a post above; it mentions what is underneath the 3 plastic screens.
It also mentions the "snorkel," which is the air intake for the heater blower.

Kitch,

you are way over thinking this, it is an easy removal: remove the wiper arms at the spline stubs, than remove all of the screws and fasteners you can see on the leading edge of the cowl. than break the cowl free and wiggle it out.

Stop fretting about it and go out and do it. Once it is off you will know what to fix, clean out, etc. It becomes obviuos once the cowl is out of the way.

Helpful hints: sometimes it sticks in place if it has never been removed, but you should be able to get part of it free with all the fasteners removed, and you can wedge a plastic putty knife under it and work it free without damaging the weather strip or the sheet metal parts. It makes it easier to remove the hood first (4 ten mm bolts, and an assistant to hold the hood, it does not weigh much, while you unscrew it helps), but it is not necessary to remove the hood to get the cowl off.

now go for it!

Thanks guys,
I appreciate the moral support, though unfortunately it is my nature to over think things. Haven't had a chance to address the problem yet. Also need to do this on my 82 Cressida, there is a water leak on the drivers' side coming down in proximity to the drivers side fuse box which I don't believe is do to any windshield leakage.
Thanks again!

If antenna is on that side of car may be the rubber boot is cracked where ant. wire goes thru body. May have to remove fender. That's the way of the tercels, cressida might be similar
Love those Tercell 4x4 wagons but they sure suffer from road noise.
