external to internal regulator alternator
Is this swap a very difficult one to go through and what exactly do i have to do? want to to simplify and add reliability to my charging system that currently doesn't work.

Re: external to internal regulator alternator
You'd be better off finding a donor car that is internally regulated and swapping everything over. The entire wiring harness, if you wanted to be sure.

Re: external to internal regulator alternator
actually I do not think it is that hard to accomplish, I presume you want to install an alternator with an internal regulator. compare the wire diagram of both systems, and than find the alternator you want to install, compare the mounts and the connectors. If you get it from a wrecking yard you may have to also get the alternator mount and simply cut off the connector. Than you can mount the new alternator, and adapt the wiring for the new alternator by splicing in the correct connector, changing the wire bundle where the voltage regulator used to be to match the new configuration. It will take a little head scratching, but once you figure out what needs to change it should not take much to make the conversion.
I have not done, but have considered it. I have up dated by alternator from the early type to the newer one, which took a new mount and a different connector. both were internal regulator type, so I did not have to alter the wire bundle, only the connector. but I did it in such a way that I can remove the adapter plug I made, and install the older type alternator again if I wanted to.

Re: external to internal regulator alternator
The alternator usually has 3 connections, but the external regulator has six, which makes it more complicated in my book than just splicing wires together.
