I've been running the AC quite a bit during the heatwave and am having an "issue"....when sitting at a light after having the AC on awhile...the fast idle and likely the AC compressor cycles on and off about every 5-6 seconds...doesn't happen all the time though. Acts like it might be doing this because the condensor fan behind the grill isn't cooling enough.
Haven't checked the sight glass yet.
Do know that there is a rotary knob on the black AC control box behind the glove box...the amplifier...
Also there is a VacSwitchValve involved...
how I use the AC....
* keep the setting at COOL all the time in summer...since finding that moving it causes cooling problems.
* regulate the amount of COOL by changing the fans speed and/or using the ECON or AC modes.
* found that setting the recirculate/fresh air lever in the middle increases AC cooling...and I still get a good amount of fresh air thru the car.
-----
Checked the sight glass and there are BUBBLES when the compressor is running....so if you get the CYCLING thing at a stoplight in summer when running the AC.....guess what? Needs charging...
AC problems and issues...
AC what I would give to have AC right now.
Bubbles are the sign of gas loss. The system will keep running and not feel as cold until ... the compressor siezes as the lubricating oil will have escaped with the gas.
Gas loss is usually attributed to o-ring failure, though there are many possibilities.
You can do everything to repair the system except re-charge the gas; it is not difficult but time consuming. With the repair will be the conversion to the newer gas.
UAP sells the kit to repair and convert.
If you want to be able to recharge the gas yourself the course is rather easy.

Hello to all..
back from a long time..!!
I had quite a few issues with my A/C Idle-up system....
In fact, I had the same problem than yours... at a light, RPM went up and down... In fact here is the problem:
When the A/C in on, the Idle-up system increase the idle of the engine WHEN THERE IS NO LOAD ON THE ACCELERATOR. As soon as you accelerate (i.e. going more than 1300-1400 rpm), the idle-up system is disabled. So, the problem was (on my car) that the system was fighting himself. The Idle up speed was too fast, so it engaged, and then the idle increased at 1400 rpm, and the system disabled instantly the idle-up. So it did like that all the way (On/Off/On/Off).
My advice is to lower the idle up speed by turning counterclockwise the screw that is on the idle-up valve near the throttle control.
